Steeped in history, Château de Chargé was established in 1429 near La Roche Clermault, an outlying hamlet of the French town of Chinon. It was here that very same year that the town’s most famous visitor, Joan of Arc,
came to meet the King of France to obtain his support for her mission.
Château de Chargé is situated in the rolling farmland 8km south of Chinon between the hamlets of La Roche Clermault and Marcay. Seuilly, the famous home of Rabelais, is just 5km to the west. The wine producing towns of Saumur, Saumur Champigny and Bourgueil are within 20 kms, while the major historic Châteaux of the region are all within easy access for daytrips (Chinon 6kms, Ussé 15 kms, Azay Le Rideau 25 kms, Villandry 40 kms.)
